Stopping Cat Problems

TNVR Can Help

Cats that live outside or are allowed outside can roam and inadvertently become a nuisance for residents, especially if they are not spayed (female) or neutered (male).   In general, spay/neuter should be done first.  Contact a TNVR group for advice and assistance with TNVR.  After spay/neuter, the cat population will stabilize and the mating and heat cycle problems will be eliminated.  Good colony management will also help with some of the other common problems below.

  • Cats in my yard

  • Cat Spraying/Marking Territory

  • Cats Fighting

  • Cat Mating

  • Cat in Heat

  • Cat Poop in my Yard

  • Cat overpopulation

Having the cats all fixed through TNVR will immediately end the problems associated with cats in heat and cats that are mating such as howling and fighting. Spraying will also be reduced and won’t be as smelly. (The commonly thought of odor of cat pee is actually cat testosterone.) The population will gradually decline reducing other problems created by cats.

For remaining cat problems such as cats digging or pooping in the garden we recommend motion activated sprinklers and motion activated ultrasonic cat deterrents. A variety of each can be purchased through Amazon.  A hand held squirt bottle can also be used to train cats not to sit on a porch or a car. Alley Cat Allies also offers several other solutions to addressing specific cat problems.
